Feeling down? Feel like you need
some quenching? Or, maybe you just feel so overwhelmed by God's
presence and His love that you want to encompass all that He is (at
least while still here on earth in your earthly body). Look no further
than WPSM-, in other words, 91.1 on your radio dial. Through this
writer's travels, and having lived in other areas, none can compare
with the beauty and God anointed power of this Christian radio station.
From the individual people who make it all happen, to the fine
selection of music that comes streaming through- we are greatly blessed
to be in such close proximity to these people and the music.
Third
Day, Mercy Me, Chris Tomlin, Nicole C. Mullen, Kirk Franklin and the
list goes on and on. They know it and they play them all. If you are
new to Contemporary Christian, or if you've never tried it before, you
will find there is nothing like it. It absolutely transforms your life.
It changes you from the inside out. It makes you feel so close and
complete with God that nothing compares. You begin to realize what you
were created for, and for Whom.
Fasten your seat belt. Driving along
in your car, you literally feel as if you could eject out of it as you
"rock out". Maybe, you've had a rough day. Maybe you are going through
some difficult times and don't believe that you can hang on. Then, some
other song starts up that "releases" you from that pain. These people
truly care about you. They don't do this for the money or for fame.
They do it because they genuinely have a calling on their lives to
serve others.
From the often hilarious and heartwarming duo of
Drew and Jessica in the mornings, to newcomer Scotty (pictured here) in
the afternoons, these people love what they do. It shows. They are also
every bit as giving, warm and sincere in person, as they are on air.
While currently celebrating their 25th anniversary, here are some impressive facts about this station:
* Inspired by God, and due to his love of music, L.M. Thorne, the founder, put a board together to start WPSM- 25 years ago.
* They began with 387 watts
* They began as Pastors, sharing from the heart, and gradually grew to more mainstream music
* They started with approximately 500 listeners
NOW-
* They've never received grant money! It's ALL listener supported! (That says a LOT)
* The Lord has blessed them with 11,000 watts of power
* They reach from Panama City to Pensacola
* They are # 3 in a market of 35 local radio stations- (WOW!!!)
Jessica, the morning co-host, offers this insight as to why they do what they do; "when I'm out in public, at the post office for instance, and people say 'thank you' it makes it all worthwhile. I've even met people who have told me that they have contemplated suicide. They heard our station and it turned their life around."
Jessica goes on, "we've had offers to sell and we don't feel God wants us to. We love impacting people. I get calls from listeners who hear the 'mom moment', calling in to just say 'thank you for that'. Being a mother myself, I know about the challenges faced by women daily".
"Our goal is to bring the body of Christ together. It doesn't matter if you are Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, or whatever. It's all about God and His love", Jessica adds.
But,
don't just listen to them. Get involved. Volunteer. Tell your friends
and family to listen. Send them a much needed and deserved donation.
Details about how to do that is available on their website. By the way,
it is a very cool website! They now are streaming live, if you happen
to be out of town also! Check it out. Go to: www.wpsm.com

The smell drags you in. The warmth, humor and kindness of the owners and staff keeps you there. The food will make sure, indeed, that you will continue to return. Every customer that walks through the door gets a free sample, while they wait. The pictures that adorn almost every space on the walls and ceilings tell the stories of people who love the food and the hands that prepare it. From local t.v. personalities, to sports celebrities and comedians, not to mention regular locals, everyone agrees there's no place like Arlene's.
Invited by her personal hair dresser to set up at the hair salon to sell lunches, Arlene had no idea what God had in store for her. You see, Arlene is from Miami. She knows cooking. She knows recipes that most of us haven't had the pleasure to introduce to our taste buds. So began the journey from the beauty salon to her own restaurant. In just 9 weeks after being told she needed to open up her own place, God opened doors for Arlene. Literally. Driving around, looking for a place to start, she called the owner of a building. The building was boarded up and wasn't even listed for lease. The owner met with her anyway, and guess what? The owner happened to be a Christian also. Within 3 months, Arlene had her permits, licenses, inspections and set up. Her very own pastor and congregation members showed up to bless the business. That was October 3, 2007. Not even 2 years and they are already getting ready to expand, within 3-6 months, into the building next door. Owned by the same landlord! The new facility will allow for sit down eating, along with the current take-out.
They offer some Sunday southern style vegetables. The kind that take you back to your southern youth and childhood. They offer a dish called a "Denby Burger" that is hand patted and seasoned for a 1/2 lb in size. She has a special secret tea she calls a "Miami Flop", with special blends of pineapple. (Getting hungry already, aren't you?) The sauce covering the ribs is unlike any other. There's no question, once you eat the food why people return again and again. When you realize and learn what a kind and giving heart Arlene and her husband possess, you understand why the Lord has blessed them so. When people stop by who have no money, they feed them. They feed the homeless, the elderly. They hold special events to bless the community. Face painting, activities for kids, music and the such is something that they regularly hold once a month. They cater for military events, and other special events as well.
Arlene's motto is "prepared with blessed hands". Because the Lord blesses them through their hands. Arlene believes that none of us can do anything without "HIM". When asked why they believe they have been so successful in such a short time, Arlene and her husband respond quickly, "because we have given back and tried to be a blessing to others".
Make it a point to stop by 3420 Mobile Hwy in Pensacola when you are hungry. They also offer catering services. Their phone number is: 850-434-7525,

Don't throw away that amazing pair of shoes that you can't bear to part with. All you need to do is take them down to Heel 2 Toe shoe repair. This business is located at 186 Eglin Parkway in Fort Walton Beach. It's in the shopping center next to Mary's Kitchen. It's a Christian owned, family business and the people who run it are magnetic! As a matter of fact, they are so wonderful to be around that you almost want to damage a pair of your shoes, on purpose, just so that you can go by there and see them!
This is a talented family that has been engaged in this profession now for 3 generations! Yes, you read correctly- 3 generations! Seeing the equipment and everything that goes into shoe repair leaves you in awe of how they can turn a hopeless pair of shoes into a revived pair.
Indeed, studies show that people are opting to get their shoes repaired vs. throwing them away and paying for new ones. No doubt, due largely to the current economic situation. You should be amazed at the results.
Patronize this locally owned business and save yourself some money. To learn more about them, you may visit their website at- www.heel2toeshoerepair.com
