Walking through the front door of Waterboyz in Pensacola, Florida is, in a word- EXCITING!
When you meet the owner, Sean Fell, you understand why. From Surfboards and skateboards to T-shirts and the Lord, it reflects what the owner and his business are all about.
"Starting this business has been a journey in faith that I probably wouldn't have learned otherwise. It's made me realize that nobody is going to hand you something. You have to work hard for it, and yes, make mistakes and learn from them. You have to try to figure out a way to minimize your mistakes at the same time. I learned that no matter how tough things get, you can't stop. You have to move forward. You have to have faith. God will provide a way if you just have faith and you don't give up", Sean tells us.
"Not only have I experienced the rewards of this business, but I feel like I've been able to be an inspiration to friends who have also begun businesses. They've watched me weather obstacles and persevere. I've been able to show them that there is something greater and bigger than you, and it takes faith in God", Sean said.
What started as not a business, but a hobby has turned into a thriving enterprise. Sean got the surfing bug at the age of 12 or 13. Along with a group of close friends, the name Waterboyz began to catch on when one of the guys girlfriends made them T shirts for Christmas with their namesake on them. Sean was also making surfboards for friends, and honing his craft.
In 1989 from his garage, at the tender age of 21, things began to take off. Needing to produce larger quantities of T's, Sean studied a photo and using scraps from various materials, constructed his very own Screen Printing machine. (Did we forget to mention that he's very innovative?).
In order to build capital, Sean and friends began creating and selling T's for local businesses. Finally, at the age of 22, Sean went with his grandmother to the bank to obtain his first business loan for a brand new screen printing machine. All the while, Sean continued going to school, and working odd jobs. (Did we forget to mention he works hard?). The guys would sell their creations at trade shows. They also marketed those T's and surfboards to other surf shops throughout the country.
Eventually business grew to the point so that it became necessary to sell off the screen printing they had been doing for other businesses and focus solely on "Waterboyz". After the business outgrew the garage, it moved to a mini-warehouse. Soon, they became blessed with the need for even bigger space. They then moved to a location on Gregory st. with their own retail display area.
For going on 2 years now, they have been at their current location at 380 N. 9th Ave., in Pensacola. The creativity and friendliness flow at this place! You just have to experience it for yourself!
During this Christmas season, there is currently a sale going on for buy one get the other 1/2 price off. (We thought you'd like to know). Word has it that they are also going to be raffling off a surfboard! So get in there now! While you're at it, be sure and visit their great website at: www.Waterboyz.com.
